In an effort not to talk about my craptastic week, I'm gonna talk about geeky things instead.

I got my copy of Got To Fly, Marian Call's new album in the mail yesterday. Financially, it was not a wise purchase, and I know this. I did try to resist. But. It is too spiffy for me not to own (mine is number 75!). The music is beautiful and insightful and funny and amazing and delightfully geeky. Also, Marian is a friend and she herself is awesome and I may or may not sort of have a girl-crush on her/want to be her... My favorite song is "In The Black" which my first impression of says it's a letter from Kaylee Frye's parents to her, but the liner notes say it's for Bill Adama and Inara Serra. I have it in repeat at the moment. My other two favorites are "Good Old Girl", a tribute to Kara Thrace, Serenity, Roslin, Galactica, Zoe, any beat-up but well-loved vehicle you may have owned at one point, and "Vera Flew The Coop", a tale of the kind of folk-hero woman Jayne might have named his gun for. Also, "It's Good to Have Jayne on Your Side" is hilarious, and you really have to know the story behind it. Honestly, every single song on this disc makes it well-worth owning, but it defeats the purpose to say every one is my favorite... Even if you don't identify as a geek, this album is worth owning. And Marian definitely deserves the love.

In other geek-music related news, rumor has it that The Canton Mudders' new album will be finished and out very soon. I kind of can't wait, and I'm having difficulty keeping the details to myself, but I guess it really isn't for me to be making any announcements about it... *squirms impatiently* Just... Go check out Got To Fly, and hopefully I'll be able to say I have my own copy of Shindig soon.
